Travel Experiences to Korea

We had to get a taxi to go to the Korean consulate in Chicago in order to pick up our teachers visas. The taxi ride was like an hour long and cost $110. On our way there the lanes of traffic for our side was moving at a good pace and the lanes going in the other direction were crawling so we werent looking foreward to the ride back. Then on our way back our lanes were moving fine and the other side was crawling so we were blessed to have the traffic working in our favor both ways.

We got a taxi to take us to the airport and we unloaded our stuff there. Our bags were all around 50 pounds exactly. We got on the plane and sat way in the back. It was a 777. We were thinking that we kinda got jacked because our original flight was supposed to be on some asian air flight, and we got stuck with united, which everyone we talked with said that it wasnt nearly as accomodating. The plane filled up and it was pretty packed, but we ended up with all 5 seats in the middle of the plane being empty. So during our long flight we took turns sprawling out across 4 of the seats and sleeping. We also got to move over to the window on one side of the plane when we wanted to because there were two empty seats next to eachother there. The 5 seats in front of us had 4 people in them and the 5 seats behind us had 2 people in them so we were totally blessed to have those 5 seats all to ourselves.

The flight went from Chicago to Tokyo where we had a layover and then from Tokyo, Japan to Seoul, Korea. When we arrived in Korea we went to get our luggage and it was a lot, so we needed to get those travel carts that carry the luggage. They cost about 3$ a piece to use, and as we got to our gate for our baggage claim there were two carts next to the elevator just waiting for us. We both felt that God was really taking care of us so far during the trip with all of these nice little accomodations. We grabbed the carts and loaded up and went through the customs and immigration. At the airport there were two Korean guys waiting to pick us up. They had come with a van and so we loaded our luggage in and we were off.

It was really cool because right after taking off they asked us if we had eaten and we did have a meal on the plane but we were hungry...anyway we just said that we had eaten a while ago on the plane and then they gave us these packed lunches that were all nicely wrapped and tied together at the top with all kinds of goodies. We both ate/drank our first Korean meal in the car. We had to drive about an hour from the airport to the main Seoul SDA institute. All in all we were traveling for around 22 hours. We arrived on thursday night at 11:30pm and had to get up for orientation by 8:00am the next day. We moved into guest housing and are waiting to get placed in a more permanent residence.
